Absolutely Fabulous (or “˜Ab Fab’, as it’s affectionately known) is once again returning to our TV screens this Christmas for a seasonal special, for the first time since 2005 – and we couldn’t be happier! The iconic show, which first aired in 1992 and was briefly revived in 2001, is the brainchild of Jennifer Saunders and (of course) features the wonderfully camp comedic talents of 5’8″ Joanna Lumley, one of our favourite big and tall girls. This Christmas special will also include some brilliant cameos from Emma Bunton of Spice Girls fame and fashion designer Stella McCartney – as the 2011 replacement for Christian Lacroix. Speaking to Stylist magazine about reviving the show and meeting Stella, Jennifer Saunders revealed: “She’s lovely. I said, “˜Don’t you mind being the new Lacroix?’ And she said, “˜No. But he did go out of business, didn’t he?’ But I was like, “˜Don’t worry. It’s not a curse’.” Fashion is an integral part of Ab Fab, even if some of Patsy and Eddy’s style choices could be safely classified as “˜disastrous’. Their uniquely flamboyant look is loved by fans, however. Joanna Lumley recently told the Daily Mirror: “I still get fans coming up to me with pictures of them dressed as Patsy. To think I have been able to bring joy to people’s lives is a wonderful feeling. I love playing Patsy – and she hasn’t changed. She’s still got friends in dark places and is still elegantly dressed, even if she does go a bit downhill after a few drinks.” In honour of the Ab Fab Christmas special, we’ve been thinking of some great ways to channel Patsy and Eddy chic – without looking ridiculous!
