Annabel Vernon raring to go in London Olympics POSTED BY LTS Elizabeth 06.15.12
Cornish tall girl Annabel Vernon is just one of the rowers selected to represent Great Britain in the 2012 Women’s Olympic Rowing team. She has been rowing since she was 17, and this is the second time that she will compete in the Olympic Games.
Writing on the BBC Sport blog, Annabel said: “This time around I have a greater appreciation for what it means to call yourself an Olympian; but at the same time I am even more aware that it is all about my rowing”. The pressure is well and truly on, so what keeps Annabel motivated?
“Along with the physical effort required, I loved the mental game of performing to my best on the day and going out to test myself against the best in the world”. Annabel picked up a silver medal at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, and, along with the rest of the team, she’ll be watched by the whole world as she competes in the London Games this summer.
This weekend, the final leg of the three-regatta World Cup in Munich will take place, putting the teams through yet another test before the Olympics. Two of our best medal hopefuls, Katherine Grainger and Anna Watkins, will be aiming to maintain their golden lead.
