With only two weeks to go until the London Olympics 2012 finally kicks off, excitement (and pressure) are definitely high for the most oar-some tall women in Britain, the GB Women’s Rowing Team.

Our sponsored rowers, Katherine Grainger and Anna Watkins – whose incredible success at all three of the World Rowing Cups earlier this year makes them two of the strongest rowers out there – have made no bones about aiming firmly for gold medals.

Anna and Katherine have already topped the medals boards in Belgrade, Lucerne and Munich for the World Cup Regattas, and can now look forward to competing in the double sculls on home waters at Eton Dorney. Winning would make them the first British women ever to win an Olympic gold medal for rowing.

The British Olympic Association has also just announced the final line-up for the GB women’s eight for London 2012. This means that all the seats are now taken in the women’s eight boat, out of an overall rowing delegation of 52 rowers (47 rowers plus five spares). These tall women are: Olivia Whitlam, Louisa Reeve, Jessica Eddie, Lindsey Maguire, Natasha Page, Annabel Vernon, Katie Greves and Victoria Thornley, with Caroline O’Connor as their cox.

Katherine told the BBC: “It is just brilliant to have seen the women’s squad grow in strength and depth, and to see the standard of success that has been set. Women are arriving in the squad and are expecting to be successful now and compete at the top, top level, not just be part of a team but actually winning events.”
