Monochrome + Summer = Win! POSTED BY LTS Elizabeth 07.01.12
Okay, we know that the combination of monochrome clothing and summertime may sound slightly absurd for many, but trust us: like peanut butter and jam, it’s an unnatural combo that’s surprisingly tasty.
Summer is traditionally the time for bright colour, tie-dye festival chic and loud prints – all of which are fabulous, but not necessarily appropriate when you’re looking for a sophisticated look that you can take from the office into the evening. That’s where monochrome comes in: it can be both professional and playful, as long as you have the right pieces.
We have a couple of gorgeous monochromatic dresses in our tall clothing collection this season, including this chic Palm Print Mock Wrap Dress, with a large all-over palm print, office-friendly collar and (subtle!) blue and orange accents. Alternatively, for something a little more classically girly and feminine, check out this “>Stencil Flower Print Dress, with A-line styling, small yellow accents and a sweet Alice In Wonderland-style ribbon sash belt.
This month, Elle magazine described monochrome as “the ultimate sartorial statement of the ineffably chic” – which does sound slightly ridiculous, but also makes sense. After all, black and white is a timeless, classic combination. But that doesn’t mean that it has to be dull – tall women who love fun prints but don’t love bright colour should look out for vintage-inspired polka dot pieces for an easy way to incorporate monochrome into your wardrobe.
Start off by taking a look at our stylish Spot Palazzo Pants – palazzo pants (characterised by an ultra-flared wide swishy leg) not only look brilliant on tall women, but are also the trouser shape of the season, and have featured heavily on catwalks over the past few months. These black pants are brightened up by a beige polka dot print, making them ideal for both workwear and the evening.
Alternatively, if you want to make the look more feminine, this new arrival midi-length Spot Pleated Skirt is floaty and flirty, in a versatile ‘midnight’ shade – wear it with bare legs and heels this summer for an effortless all-day look.
